Pizza Margherita

The most common pizza in the world is probably the pizza Margherita. It was first prepared in Naples in 1889, when the Italian royal couple wanted to try the local dish. It was then that the pizza maker named the pizza that the queen liked after her.

Ingredients:

  • Pizza dough – 270 g
  • Mozzarella cheese – 200 g
  • Tomato paste – 2 tbsp
  • Olive oil – 2 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1 clove
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Basil – to taste
  • Cherry tomatoes – 8 pcs
  • Wheat flour – 2 tbsp

For decoration and serving

  • Basil – to taste

Directions:

  1. In this recipe, we used yeast pizza dough. Peel the garlic clove and cut it in half. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan. Put the garlic in and fry, stirring, for 2 minutes.
  2. Then add the tomato paste. If you are using thick tomato paste, add a little water. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, add salt, and remove the pan from the stove after 2 minutes.
  3. Finely chop the basil leaves with a knife and add to the tomato sauce. Remove the garlic. Cool the finished sauce.
  4. Cut the mozzarella into 3-5 mm thick slices. If desired, you can grate some of the mozzarella on a coarse grater. Remove the stems from the tomatoes. Cut them in half or into circles.
  5. Sprinkle the work surface with flour. Put the dough in and knead it with your hands into a round layer about 5 mm thick, leaving the edges thick to create sides. Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat or baking paper.
  6. Grease the base with tomato sauce. Put mozzarella and tomatoes on top. Bake in an oven preheated to 220 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Decorate the finished pizza with basil leaves.
  7. It is advisable to serve the finished Margherita pizza warm, while the cheese remains soft. Chefs love this dish for its ease of preparation, and gourmets – for its amazing taste. All because the sauce of sweet and sour tomatoes goes perfectly with soft mozzarella, aromatic basil, and fluffy dough.
